After some initial test with the REMO UT heads that came with the kit, it is now time to swap them out and actually seat and tune them properly. Heads are changed and seated but, according to the Drum Tuning Bible, and since I don’t own a hair dryer, we need to wait 12 hours before proceeding. I am also moving the drum kit over to the East nook. I think it will cut down on room reverb. Eventually, gobos will be constructed to further isolate the sound.
Now that the studio is “good enough” construction wise, wiring and sound testing can begin. Starting with a the Pearl Decade Maple drum set, and a full compliment of Sabian XSR cymbals, a mic complement was installed. Since this was just a tech test, tuning on the drums was rudimentary and will be addressed later. The good news, everything worked as planned. Look for a song or two to be posted as the result of these initial tests.
An acoustic guitar station was also setup using a matched pair of sE7 small diaphragm condenser microphones.
And lastly, an electric guitar station with options for either the Dr. Z Carmen Ghia amp or a simple Fender Champion. The microphone is CAD Trion 7000 ribbon with a sE Dynamite in-line level booster.
